Community Program
L.E.A.D.E.R.S.H.I.P. 1st community programs are designed to meet the challenges and needs of our changing and diverse communities. Our mission is to engage and empower communities to develop leaders in order to help them accomplish their goals, dreams, aspirations and "to do the right thing". Utilizing character education as a tool, we challenge our clients to serve others. All of our programs use the L.E.A.D.E.R.S.H.I.P. acronym as the foundation. By using these character values we can influence the decision making process of individuals, families, teams, organizations, and communities. Currently our community programs are in the developmental phase. Following are brief overviews of our community programs.
L1 Ambassadors—After School Program
The Ambassador program is for middle school and high school students outside of their traditional school schedule. The purpose of this program is to take the information learned in the L.E.A.D.E.R.S.H.I.P. 1st curriculum and put into practical application. The student groups are expected to complete service projects from concept to completion. The instructor provides guidance, support, and the information needed to be successful, but it is the responsibility of the student group to actually create success. This allows the students to learn how to work within their community and with different community members. It also creates a safe place to fail. So many people in today’s society fear failure because they have either never felt it or were not taught to deal with it and learn from it. This program provides a place where students can fail, learn from it, and still come out feeling successful.

1st Step Program
The 1st Step program is a multi-generational program catering to those who have been incarcerated or have spent time in a substance abuse rehab facility. There are many components to this program, allowing us to reach a wide spectrum of clients. The primary facility is a transitional home for youth coming out of either corrections or a rehab center. The purpose of this type of home is to offer the structured setting that has helped these youth be successful so far while also re-teaching them how to interact in their community, with their family, and with their friends. The technology used in the International Academy will also be used to ensure that each of our residents is academically competitive with their counterparts. We will also be providing life skills lessons and counseling for all residents.
Our adults will have access to the technology as well with the goal or acquiring their GED/HSE. Their continued education will consist mainly of life skills as they relate to acquiring and holding a job, residence, and relationship.
L1 International Academy Charter School
The International Academy is a charter school in Canyon County, Idaho projected for 2011. This school will use state of the art technology to reach students who are being missed in a more traditional setting. The primary target groups are students who have simply fallen through the cracks and are behind in their education. The programming the school will use actually assesses each student’s abilities, generates the curriculum needed to bring them to the appropriate level, and allows the student to work at their own pace. If a student is struggling in one area or another the program stops them, notifies the teacher, and the student gets the extra help that they need. What better way to improve our communities than to ensure every person is educated?
